Webhosting recommendations?

Postby pointblank » Tue May 08, 2007 11:28 pm

What hosting do elitians recommend? I need webhosting for a small company. It must be located in Australia as they only get Australian traffic. I know that US companies can offer ridiculous cheap prices, but to prevent lag, I prefer an Australian based server.

Wow, they are almost as cheap as the US hostings. Unfortunately they don't allow external domain redirection to your webspace. This is no good for this particular company as they need to redirect 7 domains to the same webspace.

Do they provide anything like Fantastico or Plex?

PB, in the US you can get 5-15 times as much for that money...

Cool, they have similar prices to micfo.com in the states. I see micfo offer two year free if you prepay for two years so you get 4 years total. Do Server Australia offer any sweeteners?

I really don't know LV, I'm new to all this stuff and just bumbling my way through it, the service and support seem good though

Their current website is only 122MB. I am only not sure how much traffic they have.
In the dealers section they need FTP downloads, so I guess that will be the highest traffic.
Because the company is only selling in Australia, I prefer Australian based server. Although nowadays US bandwidth is in abundance, there is always that initial delay when loading.

People are savvy enough to expect delay in some pages - after all the people buying from you have probably surfed a lot of American pages before deciding on your services and know what to expect from a web browser.

Disregarding what people are asking for and making irrelevant suggestions is the norm deb.

PB, with regard to forwarding, the domain registrar I use allows me to forward any name to any address - regardless of whether the host of that end address 'allows' it or not - so I'd check with the registrar of the domains.
Money is not the only thing that motivates people, but that does not negate the fact that they're underpaid.

Yep, I know I can forward the domains, but what I have read, Jumba doesn't allow external redirection to their server:

http://www.jumba.com.au/hosting/faq/

So we can't redirect our domains to:
http://servername/~username/

I'd just like to thank serversaustralia, we had some problems getting the domain up and running due to me using the same username on two acccounts. The support wasn't lightning fast but we got there in the end. I would recommend them to anyone wanting cheap Australian hosting

Virtually two years since this thread was used, but anyhow .....

Since my website got hacked some time ago, I sort of lost interest in maintaining my site, but for whatever reason, I continued to
pay my annual web hosting fee. Now I've retired, I might try to rekindle some interest in it (if I can find time)

However, the reason for this bump is that my renewal for hosting is due, but at US$143 I think it's a bit steep.
My tiny site only uses 38.16 MB disc space.

Anyone have any more reasonable recommendations please.

I'll be away to Echuca for a few days - so no rush.

Friends are using Crazy Domains and they think its good enough for their small business.

We use Mdhosting ourself and they are cheaper. I am quite ok with the performance.
